My name is Mark Murray.
I have been surfing since the age of nine, first learning to surf here at Westward Ho! Almost 15 years ago.
Since then surfing has been my biggest passion. I am lucky enough to have travelled all over the world as a result of surfing, with my most memorable place being Indonesia where I’ve spent the last few winters and where I would like to spend many more surfing in sun shine and board shorts.
During English summer time however I have always worked in surf schools in North Devon, working my way up from full time wetsuit washer at the age of 14 to fully a qualified RLLSS beach lifeguard and a BSA qualified surf coach.
Entering into the 2019 season, this will be my 10th consecutive year working in surf schools.
Location - Westward Waves Surf School
Westward Waves Surf School operates out of Sandymere car park in Westward Ho! Located next to the pebble ridge walk way at middle end of the beach.
Westward Ho! Is the perfect beach for learning to surf. With the sandy beach being very flat, the waves break further out to sea and roll gently in giving you a far longer ride than other beaches around and ultimately more time to get to your feet. Westward Ho! Provides a safe environment for learning to surf, made even safer by the RNLI who patrol the beach through the summer months.
